DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Oncor, which delivers electricity to much of North Texas, said that the length of controlled power outages were “significantly extended” due to the ongoing severe weather conditions. And according to Oncor, while the outages were originally expected to last 15 to 45 minutes, those minutes shortly became hours. “The Texas power system is currently facing an unprecedented shortfall of electric generation. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has requested Oncor and utilities across the state to implement controlled power outages to reduce high demand and protect the integrity of the electric grid,” Oncor said in an update. At this point in time, ERCOT expects the controlled outages to continue the rest of Monday and possibly all day Tuesday.
