Hot Air Balloon Crashes In New Mexico

BBC - Five people were unfortunately killed this week after a hot air balloon hit a power line in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Witnesses on Twitter described seeing the balloon fall to the ground in a completely deflated state. Joshua Perez, in particular, was in the area when he heard the crash. Perez went on to tell KOB4 News that those inside the basket were non-responsive upon further inspection. "To see a balloon go down like this, it's heart-breaking."

Delta Variant Can Infect The Fully Vaccinated

NYPost - In Israel this week, an outbreak of the COVID-19 Delta Variant has reportedly spread to even those who are fully vaccinated vaccinated people, about half of which have been fully inoculated with the Pfizer shot, a health official said. Ran Balicer, who heads a COVID-19 government advisory committee, said that about 90 percent of new infections in the country were likely caused by the Delta variant, a highly-contagious strain that first emerged in India, the Wall Street Journal reported. “The entrance of the Delta variant has changed the transmission dynamics,” Balicer said.

Florida Condo Have Had Issues Since The 1990s

USATODAY - As sudden and horrific as the tower’s final moment of failure was, clues about what might have contributed to it had reportedly been accumulating for years. For example, a former maintenance manager have said that saltwater had infiltrated the foundation during high tides as early as the 1990s. Similarly, a condo owner had mentioned multiple maintenance failures in a lawsuit she filed against the complex back in 2015. And perhaps the biggest red flag of all was when Engineer Frank Morabito reported that there was a “major error” in the design of the building, in that the waterproofing for the entrance drive, pool deck, and planter simply didn’t drain. “Failure to replace the waterproofing in the near future will cause the extent of the concrete deterioration to expand exponentially,” Morabito wrote back in October 2018.

COVID-19 Vaccine Protection Could Last Years

NewYorkTimes - The vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are reportedly capable of setting off a persistent immune reaction in the body that may protect against the coronavirus for years, scientists reported this week. These findings add to growing evidence that most people immunized with the mRNA vaccines may not need boosters, so long as the virus and its variants do not evolve much beyond their current forms. “It’s a good sign for how durable our immunity is from this vaccine,” said Ali Ellebedy, an immunologist at Washington University in St. Louis who led the study, which was published in the journal Nature.

Bill Cosby's Assault Conviction Overturned

NBC - The Pennsylvania Supreme Court have since overturned the indecent assault conviction of Bill Cosby this week and has ordered his release from prison after finding that he was denied protection against self-incrimination. Cosby’s spokesman Andrew Wyatt thanked the comedian's legal team and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, calling the ruling a moment of justice for Black Americans. "This is the justice Mr. Cosby has been fighting for," Wyatt said in a statement. "They saw the light. He waived his Fifth Amendment right and settled out of court. He was given a deal and he had immunity. He should have never been charged."

The Emergence Of "Two Americas"

CNN - The Delta variant of COVID-19 has now been detected in all 50 states and Washington, DC, according to the latest tally from CNN. And with the more transmissible variant now noticeably spreading across the country, pressure is mounting on local and state officials to vaccinate more people. Dr. Anthony Fauci said this week that he's "very concerned about" the stark disparity between places with low and high vaccination rates. "When you have such a low level of vaccination superimposed upon a variant that has a high degree of efficiency of spread, what you are going to see among under-vaccinated regions -- be that states, cities or counties -- you're going to see these individual types of blips," Fauci said. "It's almost like it's going to be two Americas."

Trump Joins Abbot In Border Security Briefing

Gov.Texas - Governor Greg Abbott hosted 45th President Donald J. Trump this week for a border security briefing with state officials and law enforcement in Weslaco. "In just five months, the Biden Administration has done everything it can to reverse President Trump's border strategy, and their open border policies have led to a disaster at our southern border," said Governor Abbott. "Because of President Biden's outright refusal to secure the border, the State of Texas is stepping up to continue the work of the Trump administration by building a wall and restoring law and order along the border. The State of Texas is grateful for our shared commitment and partnership with former President Trump to secure the border and keep our communities safe." Following the briefing, the Governor and former President Trump reportedly went on to tour a portion of the unfinished border wall in Pharr.

Biden Wants To "Talk About Happy Things"

NewYorkPost - Pres. Biden was simply not having it this week as reporters bombarded the Pres. with questions about Afghanistan potentially falling to the Taliban once US troops fully withdraw. Biden, who met last week with Afghan leaders, said “I want to talk about happy things, man” when he received a third question on Afghanistan. And when a reporter attempted to ask a fourth question on Afghanistan, Biden said: “I’m not gonna answer any more questions on Afghanistan. Look, it’s Fourth of July...you guys are asking me questions that I’ll answer next week. But this is a holiday weekend. I’m going to celebrate it. There’s great things happening.”

New Data On Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

LiveScience - The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is reportedly highly effective against the new highly transmissible COVID-19 Delta Variant, the company announced this week. "Current data for the eight months studied so far show that the single-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine generates a strong neutralizing antibody response that does not wane; rather, we observe an improvement over time," Dr. Mathai Mammen, the global head of Johnson and Johnson's Janssen Research & Development, said in the statement. "In addition, we observe a persistent and particularly robust, durable cellular immune response." Could this be the game-changer among those who have remained unvaccinated thus far?

Trump Jr. - "My Dad Did That"

CBS - After the Trump Organization and its CFO Allen Weisselberg were indicted for charges including tax fraud and conspiracy, Trump’s children are speaking out for the first time about the criminal probe. Donald Trump Jr. posted a thirteen minute video with the intention of defending his father, but in doing so, Jr. might have possibly made things worse by admitting Trump paid for Weisselberg’s grandkids’ school. Here is MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber explaining why Trump Jr.'s statement is significant along with the latest revelations in the investigation.
